Congressman Danny K. Davis convened a child welfare public policy working group, hosted and co-sponsored by the Jane Addams College of Social Work (JACSW) at UIC Student Center East on Thursday, May 30, 2019.
The policy of separating children from migrant families at the U.S. border brought the issue of family separation into the national conversation, but social workers already know the negative mental health impact on children of family separation.
The college is partnering with the UIC Department of Special Education to prepare social workers and special education teachers to collaborate in helping adjudicated youth with disabilities achieve academic success.
