How to Apply

The Master of Social Work (MSW) Program invites applications from prospective students who are committed to social work practice that includes services to the poor and oppressed in the urban environment and who will work to alleviate poverty, oppression, and discrimination.  

All application materials must be submitted electronically online.  The following application task checklist will guide you through the process. In order for an application to be reviewed for admission all the materials, including reference letters, must be received by the January 31 deadline.  We strongly urge you to apply as early as possible and to monitor your application carefully to ensure that all materials are submitted.     Final deadline to submit information for the UIC Online Application is 11:59 p.m. on January 15, 2018.

    Final deadline to submit materials (including reference letters) for the MSW Supplemental Application is 11:59 p.m. on January 31, 2018.  

Starting an Application

The UIC Application and the MSW Supplemental Application are housed in a single application for Domestic and International applicants.

FIRST-TIME USERS

  1. Applicants have to create an account
  2. Applicants will receive an email with a PIN. Enter the PIN and your Date of Birth on the next page to complete registration.
  3. Click Start New Application, then open application.
  4. The application is dynamic and certain pieces of information are required before additional pages unlock.
  5. Click Here to Apply.


RETURNING USERS

Click on Log in under Returning Users.

The MSW Supplementary Application includes:

  • Program Option Designation

  • Resume

  • Personal Statement

    Please Note: There is an allotted space to enter responses (350 words). Please answer all questions.

  • Three Letters of Reference

    Please submit email addresses for your references. The university will automatically contact the references by email to request an electronic letter of recommendation. All letters of recommendations must be submitted by Wednesday, January 31, 2018 by 11:59 p.m.
    Please Note: References should be individuals who are qualified to assess your ability to successfully complete a graduate social work program and/or your ability to be a good social worker, consistent with the mission and values of the Jane Addams College of Social Work. Such individuals include work supervisors, volunteer supervisors, and academic advisers.

    1. Recent college graduates should have at least one instructor or someone who can attest your academic ability and performance.
    2. Individuals applying to the Advanced Standing Program Option should include at least one reference who can comment on your performance in the BSW field experience.
    3. Do not use friends, family members, or persons whose interaction with you is superficial.
  • Academic Transcripts

    Upload and submit electronically the transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate schools attended. UIC undergraduate students will not need to submit credentials for UIC coursework. A UIC transcript will post to the application within a day or two of submission. DO NOT SEND OFFICIAL PAPER TRANSCRIPTS BY MAIL.

    1. Applicants must request that official, sealed, academic transcripts from each college attended be sent to their home. These transcripts should be opened, scanned and saved to your computer, and then uploaded to your application.
    2. Online academic histories will not be accepted.
    3. Individuals who accept an offer of admission to the Jane Addams College of Social Work, and confirm plans to attend the College in the fall will be required to submit to the College a sealed official transcript from the degree issuing undergraduate college or university. This also applies to UIC undergraduate students. Please send the sealed official transcript to:

    Forward the email of the score report that was sent to you from the Illinois Licensure Testing System (ILTS): The emailed score report can be uploaded in the application, or email to: jaddams-msw@uic.edu.

    If taken at a college or university, upload the transcript. If taken online, email the certificate to: jaddams-msw@uic.edu. Please Review this document.

Applicants who submitted an application for Fall 2017, and submitted three recommendation letters will not have to resubmit emails for references in the application. The reference letters will be included in your Fall 2018 folder; however, applicants must complete the application and submit the application fee.
