Strickland Named Trailblazer

GSA awardees

Joseph Strickland, PhD, associate director of the Jane Addams Center for Social Policy and Research, was one of five individuals to receive the Trailblazer Award from the Global Strategists Association (GSA). Founded in 2013, the Chicago-based organization strives to increase global engagement among the Black Diaspora by promoting global citizenship, preparing people for global leadership, and driving racial equity in the field. Strickland (second from left) received the award, presented to individuals in their support of women, at the group’s luncheon held on International Women’s Day March 8. The only male to receive the honor, Strickland leads the group Women Reconnecting Organizing Advocating and Responding (WROAR), a coalition of women leaders focused on reducing violence to Black and Latina women and girls. The Policy Center is a fiscal sponsor of WROAR. Joining Strickland is (left to right) Peggy Parfenoff, Appreccia Faulkner, GSA founder and CEO, keynote speaker Minda Harts, Serita Love, Janie Lewis, and Dr. Geetha Govindarajan.
