About
Chastity L. Owens is a lecturer in social work and a doctoral student in education whose research aims to build an integrated approach to evidence-based interventions in schools. Her research examines ecological factors that influence the social and emotional learning of Black students, and ways schools can support their development in this area. Due to Chastity's interest in applied research, her work considers contextual and cultural factors associated with children, families, and schools.
Chastity's research interests stem from her past experiences as a school social worker, field instructor, dean of student services, director of social work practice, and medical social consultant. She established several culturally relevant programs to improve the academic performance and overall well-being of her students. One such program was the highly successful Peer Mediation Program, a collaboration between the Schweitzer Fellowship Program and the American Medical Association.
