The Impact of Scholarships

Below, three JACSW students speak about the positive impact of a scholarship, for them personally and for the populations and communities they will serve.

Efrain Leal

“Thank you so much for your support. It means a lot to me to be helped financially, especially with the pandemic we’ve experienced this past year. I want to be able to provide mental health services for underprivileged or underrepresented populations, especially here in Chicago. And I want to be able to provide my language skills in Spanish to break language barriers for the Latino population here in Chicago. Your support is helping to make that a reality.”

“Thank you so much! As a first-generation low-income student, this scholarship means a lot to me, and helps take away the stress of the financial burden and allows me to focus on my education. Your support is going to help me achieve my goal of obtaining an MSW and doing important community work here in Chicago.”

“I actually received my bachelor’s degree almost three years ago, so I’ve been a little nervous about having to juggle school and work again. But receiving this award did give me the confidence I needed to begin the school year. I chose Jane Addams because I thought it would be the best program to prepare me to make a true difference in my community, and with your help I will be able to graduate and begin working toward a career as a licensed clinical social worker.”
